Customer Issue

The customer reported that the gas oven was not heating to the temperature selected on the controls and would remain in preheat mode instead of completing the heating cycle.

The issue first appeared in July 2026 and gradually became worse. No previous repair attempts had been made, and the stove was not displaying an error code.

Diagnosis Process

  1. Inspected and tested the oven igniter

The technician inspected and tested the oven igniter to determine why the oven was failing to heat properly.

  2. Checked the igniter with an ohmmeter

To access the component, the oven door and access panels had to be removed. The igniter's continuity was then checked with an ohmmeter. Testing confirmed that the gas oven igniter had malfunctioned and needed replacement.

  3. Identified normal wear and tear

The failed component was an IGNITER DG94-00520A / SGR520A. The failure was attributed to normal wear and tear rather than another appliance fault.

Repair Solution

Because this type of igniter cannot be repaired after it fails, replacement was the required solution.

The technician removed the faulty igniter and installed an OEM replacement. One complication occurred during disassembly: one of the access-panel screws had rusted and become stripped. The screw had to be drilled out before the panel could be removed.

After installing the new igniter, the technician checked that it correctly ignited the gas. The access panels and covers were then reinstalled, followed by the oven door.

Testing and Results

After the repair, the oven was tested on multiple cycles to confirm that it could reach the selected temperatures correctly.

The technician also checked the internal oven temperature with a digital thermometer. This additional test confirmed that the oven sensor and control board were reading the temperature accurately.

The stove was heating normally after the repair and was left fully operational. No additional issues were reported following the service.

Warranty and Recommendations

The repair included a 30-day labor warranty and a 60-day parts warranty. OEM parts may also include a manufacturer warranty of up to one year.

The igniter failure resulted from normal wear and tear, so there was no specific preventive action recommended to avoid this type of failure.
